Porous Boundaries
Victoria Yuanli Yuan — Solo Exhibition
Curated by Yessíca Torres
2–5 August 2026
Hackney Gallery
1 Lower Clapton Road, London E9 0NS
Victoria Yuanli Yuan’s solo exhibition explores the shifting boundaries between body, surface, and environment, examining how identity is continuously reshaped through material encounters. Drawing on posthuman ecofeminism and hydrofeminist thought, Yuan challenges the notion of the body as a fixed, autonomous entity, instead presenting it as a porous and evolving site of transformation.
Through reflective metallic surfaces, translucent layers, and fragmented bodily forms, her practice navigates the tension between visibility and concealment, intimacy and estrangement. Materials become active participants in the construction of meaning, revealing the unstable relationships between physical presence, perception, and the surrounding world. Curated by Yessíca Torres, the exhibition invites viewers to reconsider the body not as an isolated subject, but as an interconnected condition shaped by vulnerability, materiality, and ecological entanglement. Yuan's work offers a poetic reflection on the fluid boundaries between self and other, the organic and the artificial, and the visible and the unseen.
